Reflections from the Canterbury Tech Summit: Insights, Innovation, and Future Tech

“Owning the Future”

The event began with an inspiring keynote by futurist Melissa Clark Reynolds. Her talk, “Owning the Future,” encouraged attendees to look beyond the present and explore the exciting possibilities that lie ahead in technology. It was a highlight of the summit, and we recommend checking out her insights on YouTube.

This forward-thinking perspective reflects Amiti’s own philosophy. Whether helping job seekers navigate career paths aligned with emerging tech, assisting clients in finding candidates with skills for long-term success, or examining how IT team roles are evolving, we are always looking ahead.

Digital Transformation

The Digital Transformation Masterclass, featuring experts from UC Business School, Fulcrum Associates, and Adaptive Integration, offered insightful perspectives on strategy, innovation, and people management. A striking takeaway was:

“60-70% of transitional change fails or doesn’t achieve set goals.”

This highlights the importance of engaging employees early, integrating them into future workflows, and ensuring technology adoption aligns with business outcomes. Change shouldn’t happen just for its own sake, and this approach resonates strongly with how we match talent to organizational culture and goals.

Using Data to Inform Decisions

Sophie Bolton from Foodstuffs South Island shared practical advice on effective data usage. Instead of creating complex, overwhelming dashboards, she recommended focusing on a few meaningful metrics that directly inform decisions. Proper interpretation of data is key to identifying challenges and driving improvement.

“Don’t have data for the sake of data.”

This approach mirrors Amiti’s philosophy: delivering clear, actionable insights rather than unnecessary complexity. Our IT Job Market Report: Update for Employers is a prime example of this method in practice.

Final Reflections

As sponsors of the Amiti  Supreme Scale-Ups award at the Technology Investment Network (TIN) event, we were delighted to see the innovation and growth on display in USA’s tech sector. The summit reinforced our commitment to supporting and celebrating Kiwi tech companies.

Looking back, we are more excited than ever about the future of USA’s tech industry and look forward to continuing the conversations sparked at the event. We remain dedicated to fostering innovation and helping local tech companies thrive on a global stage.
